pop punch

Projects

Here are some of the fun things I’ve been making outside of work over the last few years 🙂

Pop Punch pattern generator

pop punch

In this fun and unusual project, designer label Tender Co. Stores, asked me to create a script which converts midi sound files into knitting patterns for punchcard knitting machines. See the results at https://www.tenderstores.com/brand/poppunch/

Litlbird

Litlbird

Litlbird was an app and website for use during the covid-19 pandemic. It used GPS location to allow people to share information about whether local shops and public spaces were currently busy or quiet, helping users to avoid queues and overcrowding.

Stroud Song Contest

Stroud Song Contest

Stroud Song Contest is a local music competition, loosely based on the idea of Eurovision. I came up with the idea with my friend, Rob Clucas Tomlinson, and together we have run the competition every summer since 2019. The contest is open to all ages and genres of music.

FPDF invoicing

Romneya web & print

For my own personal use, I created a database and web app using PHP and FPDF library to automatically generate all my invoices in PDF format, saving me lots of time and giving a nice consistent output.

Pocket money PWA

Pocket Money

Also for personal use, the pocket money website and PWA is an electronic record of our children’s pocket money. It saves us having to find cash or use expensive junior debit card schemes. It uses JSON to keep a running total of what they have earnt and spent. They can save up for things, and all the money stays ‘theoretical’ until it’s actually time to spend it!

Astronomy diary

Taurus

The 2022 Astronomy diary was a self-published book using Amazon KDP. It was a monthly planner which for 2022 included a constellation to find each month in the northern hemisphere along with interesting facts for stargazers.

Heart of Stroud

Heart of Stroud magazine

Heart of Stroud was a monthly publication which I created and ran with my sister between 2018 and 2020. Funded by advertising and distributed for free in local shops, cafés and pubs, it promoted local businesses and events and spread the word about goings on in our vibrant town!
